There is hardly any risk involved if you give what the audience wants. One song followed by a fight and a few comedy scenes. Some comedy and emotion in the story is like the seasoning in the curry. Even before you think that the story has been copied from some film, the director does some changes, some tricks and dishes out a successful film; The audience lap it up and we have such similar projects coming up again and again. But what we need to understand is that these are the stories that the audience likes, it comes with minimum risk for the producer too. Also Vinayak is not a new director, he had directed Tagore for Chiranjeevi and he knows what the audience wants. Lets see how the film progresses

Cherry (Ram Charan) is a soft ware guy and he works in Hyderabad. For his Jilebi (Brahmanandam) uncle he acts as if he is in awe of a local goon (Rahul Dev). His sister Madhu (Kajal) is in love with him, unable to take this developing relationship he goes to bump him off but holds back when he says Ram Charan shooting a cop. The CBI thinks that a minister’s brother is killed by Cherry as they watch a footage. It is revealed that it was not Cherry who killed the DGP, but his look alike called Nayak from Kolkota. The rest of the movie focuses on this Nayak and his story. As this is on, a series of high profile killings start taking place in Hyderabad and Kolkata, minister Rawat (Pradeep Rawat) is targeted and Cherry finds himself taking the blame. We now get to know that there is another angle to the story, involving Amala (Amala Paul). How does Cherry escape from the CBI’s clutches? Who is Siddarth Nayak? Did he commit the murders? What is the Kolkata angle? That forms the rest of the story.

Many people think Nayak will be a story as mighty as Tagore because it implies leader and leadership. It actually talks about a man helping a man. In Tagore he balanced social awareness and commercial elements perfectly, he trusted the commercial points more and focussed on it. To be frank, it is not a new story and gives you a deja vu feel. He dished out what was necessary to make fans happy and to put it straight he knew the mass pulse. First half he brought Brahmanandam and second half he roped in Posani and JP Reddy and MS Narayana.
The driving force of the film is that it is not Cherry who is on a killing spree but someone who looks like him. But for that point, the film would have wound up pretty fast. The director and the actor worked on keeping the difference between the two characters, the second one especially was a bit reserved and maintained the dignity. Kajal and Amala Paul were ornamental and Amala Paul was dressed in heavy make up. Pradeep Rawat gets more screen space, the locations are rich, songs are okay. Music is a big minus and except for one song Thu Hi Nayak, none were worth remembering. Charmme’s song didn’t help and RR was an asset. Brahmanandam share of dialogues were good, it was written by Akula Siva and were laced with punch. This may not be a great movie like Magadheera but will satisfy the investors and its audiences.
